About

Independent charity data and nonprofit technology research

UK Charity Intelligence helps donors, journalists, researchers, grant makers and charity teams check UK charities using official public data, and helps charities evaluate nonprofit technology offers against official provider sources.

What you can do here

  • Look up a charity by name, registered number or postcode with the UK charity lookup, then open its profile for income and spending history, filing dates, classifications, operating areas, trustees and related charities.
  • Browse reviewed charity profiles and data insights such as the largest charities, income growth and decline, filing delays and income-to-spending balance.
  • Explore charities by cause or operating area using Charity Commission classifications and area-of-operation records.
  • Compare nonprofit software discounts and grants with links to each provider's official terms, eligibility notes and verification dates.
  • Use free checkers and calculators for governance, finance, fundraising, cybersecurity and data protection. Most tools calculate results in your browser.

Who it is for

  • Donors checking a charity's status, finances and filing record before giving.
  • Journalists and researchers investigating a charity, its trustees, related organisations or sector patterns.
  • Grant makers and community groups comparing organisations by cause, area and size.
  • Trustees and charity operations staff checking peers, compliance routes and technology options.

What the site does not do

  • It does not rank charities as best, safest, or most effective.
  • It does not replace the Charity Commission register, audited accounts, legal advice, grant due diligence, or safeguarding checks.
  • It does not claim a nonprofit software discount unless the page links to an official or clearly caveated source.
  • It does not yet cover the Scottish (OSCR) or Northern Ireland (CCNI) charity registers; charity data comes from the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

Independence and sources

No charity or software provider pays to be included, ranked or described more favourably. Advertising is kept separate from charity facts and benefit eligibility notes under the editorial policy and advertising policy.

The methodology explains how figures are calculated, the sources page shows when data was last refreshed, and the corrections policy explains how to report an error.
